The Client wanted a primary residence in an established beach neighborhood. The site they selected is situated on a high dune along the Atlantic coast. Their project included the Main House and a detached Garage with guest accommodations. The Owners wanted their home to live small but have flexibility for entertaining larger groups. Respecting the existing scale and character of the surrounding older beach neighborhood, the design placed the Guest House Cottage and Garage so that it directly engages the street. The larger Main House was set back towards the ocean to minimize its overall scale from the street. The building is asymmetrical reflecting the undulating heights of the dune. An intimate covered porch greets guests as they approach the front door. Once inside there is an established flow of spaces from the front door to the oceanside Verandah that eases circulation while entertaining. The Kitchen, Den, and Sitting Room were designed for more intimate living. The finish materials will develop a weathered patina found in old Florida beach houses that these Owners cherish.
