New Academic Building – Episcopal High School of Jacksonville

Our task was to design a state of the art six classroom academic building on the Episcopal High School campus with the potential for expansion. The existing campus Master Plan grouped buildings together in a series of courtyards. We proposed that new campus buildings be two story rather than the existing single story height to conserve open space and maximize building efficiency. After studying the common architectural elements such as the rhythm of columns and pilasters, the Greek Doric style with its simple form was selected as the precedent for new buildings. This academic building was designed to be built independently but could be duplicated in its mirror image. Together they would create a landscaped courtyard with axial relationships to future buildings and fields.
